Following last year's Do You Drive?, It's Not How It Sounds runs nine tracks in length, eight of which Clairmont wrote and produced entirely himself. "Clockout" sports both a verse and production from Cola H., while the previously shared single "Dun" is also included.
In February, Clairmont The Second was named a finalist for the 2020 Prism Prize, marking his second straight year in contention for the award. That same month, he joined fellow Canadian spitter Haviah Mighty in her video for "Smoke."
