Halifax group Bend the River return with their Through the Long Night EP next week, but Exclaim! is giving you the chance to hear it in its entirety right now.

The four-song offering was recorded with Joel Plaskett at his New Scotland Yard studios, and the band credit him with helping to bring a cohesiveness to the music.

This time around, the group also found themselves rewriting and rearranging as they got further along in the recording process — including the title track, which moved from rock'n'roll origins to the offbeat piano-driven number that ended up as the EP's closing track.

"The band are all fans of a certain seventies sensibility, but these songs were definitely as much an attempt to create something new as to tap into anything nostalgic," Ronok Sarkar tells Exclaim! "The songs were written to paint a picture of the world today, but in a very loose way. They are a short series of songs about people moving on, but like a world that can seem at odds with one's day to day life, there are musical surprises and memories and moments of revelation around every corner."

Tap into that sentiment by streaming Through the Long Night below.

It's officially out December 6.
