U.K. rapper Stormzy is keeping plenty busy with projects outside of his music. He recently pledged to donate £10 million — roughly $17 million CAD — to organizations, charities and movements working toward dismantling racial inequality, justice reform and "Black empowerment" over the next 10 years. As if that weren't enough, he plans to start youth on the right path early with a new children's book series.
According to the Sun newspaper, Stormzy is currently "heavily involved" with a ghost writer on a new series of children's books that will tackle social justice issues and promote diversity.
An industry insider told the Sun about the project, saying:
Stormzy has a mass audience base, with a large demographic. Publishers feel his messaging on equality, race and social injustices would be good to translate into a series of children's books. They have started conversations with his team, and ideas are still being bounced around. The lucrative deal would see him work with a ghostwriter and illustrator, but be heavily involved. One of the suggested working formats would be for Stormzy to write a chapter then the ghost writer to do the next.
Late last year, Stormzy released his sophomore record, the politically-inclined Heavy Is the Head.
