Published Oct 16, 2012Today (October 16), iconic hip-hop indie label Stones Throw announced that it will soon be the subject of a full-length documentary. Founded by DJ Peanut Butter Wolf in 1996, the label has long been a haven for underground hip-hop, soul, funk and electronica.
The documentary is titled Our Vinyl Weighs a Ton and will be directed by filmmaker Jeff Broadway. A Kickstarter campaign for the doc started yesterday, and promises "live concert footage, never-before-seen archival material, inner-circle home video and photographs and in-depth interviews with the folks who put Stones Throw on the map." Some of those folks include: Madlib, MF Doom, J Dilla, Guilty Simpson, Lootpack, Mayer Hawthorne and Aloe Blacc, among others.
The Kickstarter campaign has a very reasonable goal of $35,000, and donations are rewarded with Stones Throw swag, including a Peanut Butter Wolf skate deck, Quasimoto rolling papers and the Madvillain Kidrobot figure.
