Steve Earle & the Dukes have announced plans to record and release an album of songs written by the late Justin Townes Earle.

A press release from the band's label home, New West Records, points to recording sessions this October ahead of the album's release in January 2021, "around the time of what would have been Justin's 39th birthday."

The label writes that more details on the effort will be announced shortly, and that 100 percent of artist advances and royalties will go to a trust for Justin's daughter, Etta St. James Earle.

Justin Townes Earle, son of the elder Earle, passed away in August at age 38. A preliminary investigation by Nashville police indicated that the singer-songwriter's cause of death was a "probable drug overdose."

Justin Townes Earle released The Saint of Lost Causes through New West in 2019, while Steve Earle & the Dukes shared Ghosts of West Virginia earlier this year.
