No strangers to the musical talent found in British Columbia's Fraser Valley, Abbotsford's campus and community radio station CIVL-FM have announced a split 12-inch release from You Say Party's Stephen Carl O'Shea and power pop four-piece the Sylvia Platters

The artists will release their Shadow Steps split through CIVL on October 19, and Exclaim! has a pair of tracks from the effort that you can hear right now.

O'Shea's "World of Tears" finds him sharing vocal duties with You Say Party bandmate Becky Ninkovic, turning the feelings of sadness and frustration stemming from Vancouver's temperate climate into song. The track was recorded in early 2018 at the Vancouver Public Library Inspiration Lab with producer Mike Gittens.

Meanwhile, "Blockhead" from the Sylvia Platters finds the band channeling fuzzed-out, guitar pop sounds of the '90s in order to chronicle "the struggle to get outside your own head, memories, and basement suite." The band recorded the track at Little Red Sounds studio in New Westminster alongside producer Felix Fung.

"There's something of an inverse at play on each side of the record," Platters guitarist Nick Ubels said of the split effort. "Stephen's work feels darker musically, but brings out the gloomier aspects of our material. The opposite is also true."

Both O'Shea and the Sylvia Platters have mapped out tour dates behind the release.Next month, they'll celebrate the split's arrival with a pair of album release parties, first in Abbotsford on October 19 with Energy Slime, and in Vancouver on October 21 alongside indie pop outfit Harlequin Gold.

From there, O'Shea will head east, touring Ontario throughout the month of November. You can the complete itinerary below.
