Static Radio NJ

An Evening of Bad Decisions

BY Sam SutherlandPublished Sep 9, 2008

At a time when it seems like a lot of bearded dudes are starting bands that sound designed to appeal solely to the readership of Punknews.org, Static Radio NJ are mixing up their sound a little more than their peers, and the difference comes across strong on An Evening of Bad Decisions. While the influence of the classic No Idea Records roster is strong, there’s a big push towards the aggressive melodic hardcore of bands like Kid Dynamite and fellow Jersey boys Lifetime. The result is a grittier, looser sound than spiritual peers like Loved Ones, with Static Radio playing to their strengths particularly well on songs like "Marc” and "Cut the Tie.” This is fast, catchy and dirty punk rock that bearded dudes and metaphorically bearded ladies are pretty much guaranteed to enjoy.
