Published Jun 26, 2013Following Stars' prior lyric video for "Hold on When You Get Love and Let Go When You Give It," the Canadian indie pop band have unveiled an official clip for the new single.
While the lyric video featured a cosmic swirl of stars, this clip takes a far more human approach by showing various people defying gender norms and dressing up in drag. It culminates in an informal fashion show in a lounge, and includes a few interviews with some of the folks involved.
In a statement, Stars leader Torquil Campbell described the concept like this:
I wanted to make a video that celebrated the following things:
1. being yourself
2. being someone else.
3. being fucking fabulous
4. showing up, putting on your heels and staying alive. Drag queens know a couple of things the rest of us choose not to know: you are who you imagine yourself to be, and you can be a star even if, especially if, nobody ever knows who you really are. That's the spirit of pop, and this is a video for a POP song that most people will never hear, so I thought it all went together like Sonny and Cher.
Stars will continue to promote their album The North with a North American tour this September. See their schedule below, and scroll past that to see the video [via The Huffington Post].
