Stay On My Side

BY James KeastPublished Mar 1, 2000

Swedish pop group Starlet are apparently leaders in that country's "wuss pop" scene (something I wouldn't necessarily advertise) and Stay On My Side offers little evidence to contradict that assessment - although I wouldn't want to hear the dregs of said scene. Twee indie pop is the order of the day - chiming guitars, swirling keyboards, and softly sung confessionals. The lyrics are both at times oddly constructed in English, and border on the pathetically hapless (not in a good way) to the point of being funny. The group is strongest musically, and on this second full-length effort have put together a solid collection of pop nicely balanced by trading off lead vocals amongst the group. Still, its overtly confessional tone may lead you to only bring this out in your most pathetic moments.
