St. Vincent (a.k.a. Annie Clark) made her directorial debut with a short film called The Birthday Party as part of the XX horror anthology last year, and now she's set her sights on giving a literary classic a modern onscreen update.
As Variety reports, Clark will direct a new film adaptation of Oscar Wilde's 1890 novel The Picture of Dorian Gray. The Victorian tale tells the story of a hedonistic pleasure-seeker who remains eternally youthful as a painted portrait of him grows more hideous with each immoral act he commits.
Clark's shaking up the premise a bit, reportedly casting a female in the title role.
The script will be written by David Birke, whose recent credits include the Oscar-nominated Elle and the upcoming Slender Man.
In addition to her film ambitions, St. Vincent also returned with new music earlier this summer, delivering a new single called "New York" and plotting a North American tour. Her last full-length album was her 2015 self-titled LP.
