Square Root of Margaret

Teragram Photeur

Chatham, ON’s Square Root of Margaret have been making strangely psychedelic records for more than a decade and a half now, and while they never really reinvent themselves they are always willing to take a detour from the main highway they usually travel. Teragram Photeur is almost one of those detours, in that it’s a slightly less confusing album than the band have been known to produce. It might be too simplistic to call this their most accessible record but that’s what in essence it has turned out to be. However, this is a bit of a double-edged sword because while it might make for easier listening it is almost too easy at times, with the music crossing over into blandness. That might be because of the flat production, which lacks that certain something, but this is definitely a band capable of better. Perhaps they will prove this with one of the other albums they have waiting in the wings.
