Squad Five-O

BY Craig DanielsPublished May 1, 2002

Glam, new school punk and classic pop punk collide on Squad Five-O’s debut CD. Tracks like "I Don’t Want to Change the World" and "Make You A Star" sound like a more buttoned-down version of Robin Black or the Black Halos. They’ve also got some classic rock ballads here too, "Underground Hearts" and "Crystal Coastline," that almost sound like Poison or some other ’80s hair rock group. Not surprisingly, the standout song here is entitled "Turn It Up," which has a nice chorus hook and some good wah guitar. This is just rock music for the sake of rock music and could use a much sharper focus, but it generally isn’t bad.
