Spylacopa

Spylacopa

Spylacopa — who could and likely will, be tagged a super-group — are an amalgamation headed up by John LaMacchia (Candiria) on guitar, Jeff Caxide (Isis) on bass, and Greg Puciato (the Dillinger Escape Plan) sharing vocal duties with Julie Christmas (Made Out of Babies). Spylacopa is a wavering release of poppy metal with mood-setting textures. Spylacopa’s range is one of their most exciting and interesting points, with "Haunting A Ghost” beginning with a heavy tidal wave of hardcore sounds but managing to sway into a chorus that has unadulterated catchiness and a pitch perfect Puciato reinforcing the sonic harmony, much like "Staring At The Sound.” This release doesn’t dwell in familiar ground for very long, with piano-centric instrumental "Together We Become Forever” carrying the listener across new terrain. The finale of Spylacopa ventures away from typical with a Pink Floyd-ish atmosphere and a Radiohead-like lullaby. This is the perfect album to put on when you don’t feel like abusing your neighbour’s ears with decibel crushing Swedish death metal, or when you’re in need of something with a little more substance than just heavy.
