Spotify Officially Begins Canadian Rollout

BY Alex HudsonPublished Aug 15, 2014

We've been hearing rumblings of Spotify's Canadian expansion for years — some reports date as far back as 2009 — and now it looks as if the streaming service is finally almost here. The Swedish company has been advertising Canadian jobs in recent months, and it seems that the rollout has officially begun.

Although Spotify is still not available to the public in Canada, it has been sending out email invitations for prospective users to begin trying it early. The invites have been sent out to those who signed up here.

The emailed invite is as follows [via 9to5 Mac]:

Congratulations — you're in!

You've been chosen to try Spotify in Canada before everyone else!

Millions of songs are now waiting for you. The artists you love, the latest hits and new discoveries — all for free on mobile, tablet and desktop. Happy listening!

It's not yet clear when the service will be launching more widely in Canada, but presumably these trials mean that a full-blown release is imminent. When it arrives, it will be about damn time, since Spotify's absence in our country has become very conspicuous with the streaming industry's expansion in recent years.
