Though it may not be a part of Spoon's recent remix EP behind "Inside Out," the song has been given another re-imagining. This time DJ Quik has seasoned the They Want My Soul single with some vintage West Coast rap vibes.
Quik reworked the song as part of Yours Truly's Songs from Scratch series, and it has him drafting rappers Iamsu!, Kurupt and Boogie into the mix to add bars to the Austin outfit's bounce. While elements remain the same, from Britt Daniel's moon-gazing croon to the staccato piano line, the track gets a double-shot of confidence via the hard-spat verses and a few extra keyboard and guitar flourishes.
A making-of video has Daniel describing his track's hip-hop flavour, recalling how it has a classic Dr. Dre feel, with Quik then explaining how he put together the redo.
