Spiritualized's Jason Pierce Reveals He Recorded New LP While Undergoing Experimental Treatment to Battle Long-Term Liver Disease

Whether in Spacemen 3 or Spiritualized, Jason Pierce has partaken in the rock'n'roll lifestyle full hilt for years now, and last fall the musician learned his partying days had caught up with him once again when doctors revealed he had liver disease.

"I found out I had long-term liver disease," Pierce revealed in a new interview with the Guardian. "My liver was pretty gone, basically."

To avoid a long recovery period, the musician has been taking experimental drugs, including injections and pills, to fight the disease. He underwent the process, which left him housebound, while writing and recording the troupe's latest LP, Sweet Heart Sweet Light.

According to Pierce, the treatment left him feeling hazy, a sentiment furthered by the LP artwork, an octagon sporting the slogan "Huh?"

"The further I get away from the treatment the more I feel it wasn't me making that record," he said. "It was like I wasn't in my own head. It was made in such weird conditions, it's hard for me to get a handle on it."

As previously reported, Sweet Heart Sweet Light arrives on Tuesday (April 17) through Fat Possum.
