Pavement's Scott Kannberg is gearing up to release a new album as Spiral Stairs, and he's shared another musical preview from the forthcoming Doris and the Daggers.
As previously reported, the new LP features a wealth of cameos, including an appearance by the National's Matt Berninger on "Exiled Tonight."
The track was inspired by the death of Kannberg's close friend and bandmate Darius Minwalla, but despite the dark subject matter and brooding baritone vocals, there's an optimistic jangle to the underlying instrumentation throughout. Give it a listen below via Consequence of Sound.
Doris and the Daggers is due out on March 24 via Nine Mile/Domino/Coolin' by Sound.
