Spiderbait

Tonight Alright

BY Rob NayPublished Oct 1, 2004

Tonight Alright does an impressive job of conveying rock’n’roll that roves over diverse areas, resembling at times the sounds of the Hellacopters and Queens of the Stone Age. Kram and Janet English share vocal duties and their differing approaches create solid contrasts. The band’s overall strength is its ability to harness variations, including a couple of melodic pop moments in opposition to the more boisterous material. As proof of its abilities, Australia’s Spiderbait skilfully manages to make even Ram Jam’s irritating "Black Betty” listenable through a charged cover of the song.
