His dramatic, violent teen life (portrayed by Ben McKenzie) was backed by an elaborately coordinated soundtrack, at the forefront of which stood Phantom Planet's 2002 hit "California."
The song served as the iconic theme for all four seasons of Josh Schwartz's The O.C., and now, all these years later, we have Sadie Dupuis to thank for bringing it back to life.
Dupuis — lead vocalist of Speedy Ortiz, as well as her solo endeavour Sad13 — has been following very good advice to watch the early 2000s drama in full all these years later. To mark the occasion, she has now offered up a couple of covers culled from the series.

Alongside her cover of "California," Sadie has also shared her rework of the Dandy Warhols' "We Used to Be Friends," which was also prominently featured on the show. Both covers have been added to her SoundCloud, under a playlist titled "Extremely faithful covers of TV show theme songs for some reason."
Can we expect more 2020 editions of the show's illustrious soundtrack? Well, hopefully.
Dupuis shares the covers ahead of releasing her sophomore album as Sad13. Haunted Paintings is out on September 25 through Wax Nine. It will follow her 2016 solo debut, Slugger.
