Ahead of releasing their self-titled debut LP later this month, Ottawa four-piece Sparklesaurus are serving up a taste of what's to come from the disc with "Sprinkle on a Cake," which you can hear through Exclaim! right now.
Marked by a steady, stomping rhythm section, jangly guitars and synth solos, you can hear the track in the player below. As guitarist/vocalist Felicity DeCarle put it, the celebratory cut "is a song about making friends, social anxiety, growing up and figuring out how to be a tiny human person in a huge world. It's also a birthday song."
Sparklesaurus' self-titled debut will arrive digitally and on vinyl May 26. The band recorded the LP inside a blanket fort constructed in the living room of bassist/vocalist Colleen Jones.
"When we were deciding where and who to record with, we all agreed that it was really important to be in a relaxed, homey space," DeCarle explained in a statement. "It was such a cozy time. If you listen closely you can hear Colleen's houseplants singing harmonies."
The band will celebrate the record's release with a show at St. Alban's Anglican Church in Ottawa, with GINNY and Keturah Johnson providing support. More details on the May 26 event, which will also feature thrift and record store pop-ups, can be found here.
Sparklesaurus are also set to tour the East Coast in August, in addition to other stops throughout Ontario and Quebec during the summer and fall.
