Spades

Learnin' the Hard Way

BY Stuart GreenPublished Nov 1, 2004

Those who think no good comes of prison stints have never been introduced the Spades. The product of Holland’s penal system look and sound something like Bad Brains overdosing on Motörhead. Predictably the songs are about fighting, fucking and prison rape. But what’s surprising is their skilled execution of what is basically four-chord, street-wise gutter punk. So impressed were Seattle grungemeisters Jack Endino and Mark Arm that they lend their respective producing and musical talents to four bonus tracks tacked onto the North American release.
