Published Mar 23, 20124AD isn't usually associated with hip-hop, as the imprint's current roster includes the likes of Ariel Pink, Deerhunter, the National and St. Vincent. The label is stepping out of its usual comfort zone with its latest signing, however, as it has just inked a deal with weirdo Florida rapper (and A$AP Mob collaborator) SpaceGhostPurrp.
On June 12, 4AD will release Chronicles of SpaceGhostPurpp, which brings together material both new and old. According to an announcement from the record company, the collection "[tracks] the early years of this intoxicating prodigal talent" and "sees him take a further step towards the spotlight, and one that brings new shadows with it too."
For a taste of what the album will offer, get the track "No Evidence" below. This is an edit, while the full version will appear on the album.
If 4AD can sign any more acclaimed underground rappers like SpaceGhostPurrp, the label might start giving Sub Pop a case of hip-hop envy.
