Published Jun 01, 2016Lots of kids might not actually listen to music on vinyl these days, but that hasn't stopped the format from continuing its climb in popularity. Now, a new subscription service is looking to offer its own fresh take on the format with an upcoming cover series.
Dubbed Sounds Delicious, the new project will deliver exclusive full-length cover albums on limited-edition vinyl. It was devised by the husband-and-wife team of Matthew and Kasey Hickey over at Turntable Kitchen, and they've launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund it.
The partners have asked artists "to choose any full-length album they love and cover it from front to back." So far, the Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Mitski, Skylar Spence, Mutual Benefit, Quilt, Jonathan Rado, Yumi Zouma, GEMS and Salt Cathedral have signed on to be part of the experiment.
Sounds Delicious will operate as a monthly subscription service, delivering one album per month on limited-edition wax. A digital download will be included, but the album's won't be released in any other way.
A description on the crowdfunding page explains the motivation behind the series, claiming that "as exciting as it is to hear a band cover a popular hit single by another one of your favorite artists, it's even more fun to hear how an artist interprets the feel of an entire album — not just the big hits."
The release schedule and artists' selections have yet to be revealed, but you can keep up to date and make a contribution to the Sounds Delicious series over here.
