Soundgarden

"Non-State Actor" (lyric video)

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Oct 31, 2012

In just under two weeks' time, Seattle grunge gods Soundgarden will deliver King Animal, their first LP since 1996's Down on the Upside. Last month, the band let loose a preview track called "Been Away Too Long," and the group are whetting our whistles again with the riff-roaring "Non-State Actor."

Down below you'll see the reasonably simple lyrics video for the cut, which zooms in and out from a U.S. flag that's seemingly swapped its stars for silhouettes of King Animal's bone-pile artwork. While the vid plays it minimal, there's no doubting that sirs Chris Cornell, Kim Thayill and Ben Shepherd are working their fingers to the nubs on with their hypnotically syncopated string trilling. Cornell, meanwhile, waxes political with howled lines like "We're not elected / But we will speak."

As previously reported, King Animal arrives November 13 via Four Entertainment/Universal Republic.
