Considering Soundgarden haven't issued an album since 1996's Down on the Upside, it's safe to say fans of the Seattle grunge group have been waiting a while for the upcoming reunion album, King Animal. Despite the fervour for the impending set, which drops November 13 through Four Entertainment/Universal Republic, singer-guitarist Chris Cornell is apparently a little unsure of how the band will be received, as noted in the somewhat self-referential new single "Been Away Too Long."
A "Summertime Blues"-style setup has Cornell musing over whether or not it's possible to "go home again," as the rest of the band back him up with a crunchy pop riff. "No one loves or hates me," he howls self-deprecatingly on the cut.
Elsewhere, Kim Thayil lets loose some fretboard-wiggling leads, and Ben Shepherd also gets to bestow upon us a bit of a bass solo.
You can check out the song over at 107.7 The End.
