Music streaming services are a whole world of their own complete with power plays, allegiances, back stabbing and lawsuits. All in a battle to see whose corporate logo will be on the top of your screen while you listen to the new Kurt Vile album. Not to be outdone by the Tidals and Apple Musics of the world, SoundCloud is moving ahead with its long-promised subscription service.
In a new interview with Tech Times [via Resident Advisor], SoundCloud's co-founder and CTO Eric Wahlforss confirmed that a pay subscription service will launch later this year. He wouldn't offer any details about the service.
Earlier this month, Tech Crunch discovered a leaked contract from the proposed service. It suggests that SoundCloud will offer two tiers. One of them offers a limited amount of streams and downloads before ads are introduced into the fold, and the other offers a full ad-free user experience for a higher price.
