Soulscar

Abandoned

BY Greg PrattPublished Jul 1, 2001

This six-song EP is above average melodic death metal, not unlike Dark Tranquility, Arch Enemy or perennial underdogs, Night In Gales. Soulscar know how to piece a song together to keep you interested, and they know how to play their instruments. Speaking of instruments, this BC group is only a two-piece. Check out the killer instrumental "Ever Alone" and then sit back and wait for these guys to get signed. Contains an unlikely cover of Megadeth's "This Was My Life," which doesn't really work too well, and two entire demos that hold up surprisingly well to the new material on here. Soulscar doesn't drip with originality, but give them time and they could signal the reign of the first wave of Canadian Gothenburg-sounding metal.
