Sorrey Move On from Bad Relationships and PEI Traditions with New Single "Talking to Them"

BY Matt BobkinPublished Apr 5, 2019

PEI-based dream pop outfit Sorrey are set to release their debut album on Garment District Records later this year. Before they divulge details on the release, they've dropped new single "Talking to Them."

In a statement to Exclaim!, frontwoman and namesake Emilee Sorrey calls the new track "the dial tone equivalent to the final moments of a relationship," setting a tale of heartbreak to jangling guitars and reverbed vocals, with an extended telephone metaphor to boot.

Emilee also wrote at length about moving beyond the musical traditions of her home province of PEI. "Living and making music on PEI can have setbacks for sure, like physically not being able to leave the province to start your tour because both the bridge and ferry are closed, but, all things considered, it's an incredible community to thrive in musically," she says.

"The region will always be known for its traditional influences that run deep, but more and more I feel we're an island that delivers a style of pop that's quite honest, unique, and dare I say influenced more by the trends within our own provincial boundaries than outside forces. 'Island time,' you know, we're just doing our own thing on our own time."

Sorrey will be cementing those new traditions when their debut LP arrives later this year. For now, check out their new single and upcoming tour dates below.
