Sonic Youth's Steve Shelley Teams Up with Ministry and Nachtmystium Members for New Band

While Lee Ranaldo and Thurston Moore spend their days off from Sonic Youth jamming it up with New York's improv elite, drummer Steve Shelley has much heavier ambitions. That's why he's teamed up with members of Ministry and Nachtmystium to form a new band.

Called the High Confessions, the band also include Ministry's Chris Connelly and Nachtymystium's Sanford Parker, along with audio engineer and White/Light member Jeremy Lemos, who has done work with Jim O'Rourke, Stereolab and Bill Callahan.

The group have just inked a deal with long-running metal imprint Relapse Records. And while the label hasn't given us many more details, it says the band's debut album, Turning Lead into Gold with the High Confessions, is due sometime this summer. Oh, and Relapse describes High Confessions' sound as "a real heavy, psychedelic rock."

Updates to the band's MySpace page, including audio samples, are expected soon, so keep an eye out here.
