Sonic Avenues Make 'Mistakes' on New LP for Dirtnap Records

BY Alex HudsonPublished Mar 7, 2014

When Montreal's Sonic Avenues released their 2012 album Television Youth through Dirtnap Records, they told Exclaim!, "Dirtnap released some of the bands that we listen to every day. It totally validates what we're trying to do." It's only natural, then, that they're sticking with the label for their next full-length. Mistakes is due out on April 15.

The album was self-produced by the band in frontman Max Desharnais' apartment, with writing taken seven months and production taking less than three months. According to a press release, it finds the band shedding their preconceptions of what punk music should be, resulting in "an evolved and considerably more varied effort" with songs that are "dark, bright, short, and long."

For a taste of one side of this diverse sound, stream the hard-charging, garage-y pop-punk number "Automatic" at the bottom of this page.
