Son Volt Return with 'Honky Tonk' LP, Reveal U.S. Tour Dates

Alt-country vets Son Volt's last album American Central Dust dropped back in 2009, but the beloved, long-running act make their return in 2013 via the release of Honky Tonk. It's their seventh full-length and their second for Rounder Records, who will release the record on March 5.

A press release for the rootsy crew explains that the 11-track LP is informed, naturally, by honky tonk music, and homes in on themes of "heartache, heartbreak, and the road," which singer/guitarist Jay Farrar said is a continuation from the work Son Volt did on American Central Dust.

"I was always averse to using certain words in songs, including 'love' and 'heart,'" he offered in a statement. "Now I guess the floodgates have opened."

On top of the lyrical explorations, Farrar added that the new LP showcases his new pedal steel skills, which he picked up in the time off between the two LPs.

You'll be able to check out the new songs in concert this April, though regrettably only in the U.S. You can check the schedule for those stateside shows down below.
