The potential was great: an all-star band curated by Socalled that included Final Fantasy’s Owen Pallett, Bell Orchestre’s Stef Schneider and Hilotrons’ Mike Dubue, united to play a live soundtrack for the ’70s gay porn flick Cruising 57, in Montreal’s oldest porn theatre. Yet it wasn’t just the straight hipster tourists who were a bit let down by the technical glitches, the (at times literally) limp flick, or the academic introduction to what is supposedly an "important” film. The music was fine, but nothing special — and not worth missing a night of the festival for.
