Snow Patrol front-man Gary Lightbody is planning on spending the first part of 2010 on a new solo project, dubbed Tired Pony, and as he recently revealed to Q Magazine, R.E.M.'s Peter Buck will appear on the upcoming album.

According to Hot Press [via TwentyFourBit], also appearing on the album are a host of guests, including Iain Archer and his wife Miriam, Belle and Sebastian's drummer Richard Colburn and Jacknife Lee (U2, Weezer, R.E.M.), who is also producing the project. Lightbody and his posse are currently holed up in a Portland, OR recording studio working on the Tired Pony material, which is said to be "country-tinged."

As for working with R.E.M. guitarist Buck, Lightbody told Q that "Peter is one of my all-time heroes... I admire his versatility; he can play any stringed instrument and more besides. I can't wait to see what he comes up with! He's a real innovator, which is great because this is a whole new project."

Once the Tired Pony sessions have been completed, Lightbody and producer Lee are planning to go to Los Angeles to begin work on an electronic album under the working title Listen... Tanks! "It's a lot more kind of LCD Soundsystem," said Lightbody. "That kind of side of things."

No word on when Lightbody will begin recording a new Snow Patrol album, but these aforementioned two projects should tide fans over until he does.
