Snoop Dogg Arrested for Pot Possession Despite Medical Prescription

This might not come as that big a surprise, but noted pro-pot rapper Snoop Dogg was arrested in Texas over the weekend after authorities found the artist's stash of medically prescribed marijuana. According to TMZ, the hip-hop icon was picked up in the small West Texas town of Sierra Blanca after a routine search at a border patrol checkpoint reportedly uncovered the drugs.

A drug-sniffing dog that was brought aboard the vehicle allegedly pointed police to a red prescription bottle stuffed with several joints, making up roughly half an ounce of marijuana. Snoop reportedly fessed up that the pot was his, explaining that he has a medical prescription for cannabis in California. That didn't sway the state of Texas, however, which has a zero-tolerance policy on marijuana possession, doctor's note or not.

The rapper was issued a citation for misdemeanor drug possession and was released. A court date has yet been set, but if convicted, Snoop could face up to 180 days in jail.
