Snake River Reveal 'Songs from the Adjacent Room,' Premiere Video

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jul 21, 2015

Regina-based psych-rock outfit Snake River delivered McKruski last year — a concept album that shared the stories of residents in Snake River Mountain from one evening in February 1989. Now, the Christopher Sleightholm-led project is ready to tell some new tales of the townsfolk with the arrival of Songs from the Adjacent Room.

The follow-up record is due out on September 4 through Prairie Shag.

The new album focuses on main characters Reginald McKruski and his wife Jeanie McFeven-McKruski, and hears Sleightholm telling the couple's stories through snippets of present-day conversation and flashbacks from throughout their 16-year marriage.

First single "Resonating On" finds Reginald and Jeanie in separate side-by-side rooms, each recovering from a hangover. A press release explains: "Both are separately confronted by the reality of their crumbling, sexless marriage through a series of vague memories from their former selves, together and alone."

In addition to the album announcement, the band have unveiled a new clip for "Resonating On," and Exclaim! has got your first look at it. It was directed by Colby Richardson, and processed on VHS using analog video mixing. The result, according to Richardson, is "a garbage fire transformed into a fantasy hellscape."
