Over the last couple of years, Smashing Pumpkins have rolled out a string of deluxe box set reissues, and now the celebrated alt-rock band are set to give similar treatment to their 1996 compilation The Aeroplane Flies High. It's due out on July 23 via Virgin/UMe.
Curiously, this collection was already a box set in its original form, since its five discs consisted of expanded versions of singles from the now reissued Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.
The Aeroplane Flies High re-release is available in a few different forms. There's a six-CD set that comes with a DVD or a five-LP one with a deluxe digital download, or simply a standard digital download.
The box set expands the original 33-song tracklist to a whopping 104 tracks (90 of which are audio, the other 14 of which are audio-visual). The singles are expanded with demos, alternate versions and live cuts, while the sixth disc features live recordings from the band's 1996 tour, and the DVD showcases a live show in Belfort, France, on July 4, 1997.
The set comes with a 46-page booklet including track-by-track notes written by Pumpkins leader Billy Corgan. See the full deluxe edition tracklist below.
A press release notes that the band will soon begin recording the follow-up to 2012's Oceania.
