Smashing Pumpkins

"To Shiela" (Early Banjo Version)

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Sep 10, 2014

Since there are literally dozens and dozens of extra tracks on Smashing Pumpkins' upcoming deluxe edition of 1998's Adore, Billy Corgan probably isn't worried about previewing too much material ahead of its September 23 release through Virgin/UMe. With that in mind, the band have now unveiled a long-lost banjo version of the set's "To Shiela."

To be honest, that "Early Banjo Version" tag is pretty darn apt, with Corgan's strength-seeking lines about walking into the uncertain are supported with the back porch pluck of a five-string. Toss in a sombre, if serene choir, star-shimmer six-string work and an echoing rumble of timpani and you have yourself a rather graceful alternate edition.

You'll find the rustic redo of "To Sheila" down below.
