Smashing Pumpkins

"Being Beige"

As previously reported, alt-rock heroes the Smashing Pumpkins have signed to BMG for a pair of albums and the first one — titled Monuments to an Elegy — is set to be released on December 9.

We've seen the tentative tracklisting and learned that Tommy Lee is filling the role of the Pumpkins' drummer, but now we've got our first listen to the new material with the arrival of "Being Beige."

Opening on acoustic guitar and a minimalist drum machine beat, the tune builds up into a full on rocker with an anthem-worthy chorus of "The world's on fire."

"People always ask me to explain songs, and honestly I can't," Corgan told Rolling Stone, speaking about the new song. "But if there's honesty in this lyric, it's that there's something amiss in our cosmos. Yet still, we must love."

Monuments to an Elegy will be followed up with Day for Night, but for now, give "Being Beige" a listen below.
