Smash Mouth Finally Weigh in on the Great Nickelback/Slipknot Debate

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jun 20, 2017

Since yesterday (June 19), the rock'n'roll world has been divided by the greatest beef of this generationNickelback's Chad Kroeger vs. Slipknot's Corey Taylor. Kroeger fired shots at Taylor, dismissing Slipknot as gimmick-y and referring to Taylor's Stone Sour side project as "Nickelback Lite."

Well, we all know there's no greater musical "All Star" authority than Smash Mouth, and the band have finally weighed in on the volatile debate.

In a shocking turn of events, they've come down on the pro-Taylor side, disputing claims of inauthenticity and ruling Slipknot to be "American Icons."

The band have since defended their definitive stance on the subject, clapping back at some dude named Jeff who made the mistake of accusing Smash Mouth of riding the Monkees' coattails.

As for Taylor, he's yet to comment directly on Kroeger's attack, though he did retweet a fan who suggested: "It's still better not 2 respond and just never listen to Nickelback or give him anything."
