Perhaps taking all those Jawbreaker comparisons that were being made after the release of their debut, Our Own Wars, to heart, or maybe in spite of them, Michigan's Small Brown Bike pops on the chopper forks and barrels full speed into their own distinct sound. Oh sure, the comparisons to Jawbreaker can still be made, as they can with just about every melodic driving post-punk band from Hot Water Music to Boy Sets Fire. But with this sophomore release, SBB has definitely found themselves. With noted emo producer Ed Rose (the Casket Lottery) on board, the 11 songs they deliver are relentlessly pounding yet filled with some smooth and creamy harmonies, hooks and melodies.
