Sloan

"Right to Roam" (lyric video)

Canrock institution Sloan continue to bless us with new pop earworms. The band recently announced their 12 LP with the song "The Day Will Be Mine," and today we get another taste with "Right to Roam."

Fans of Jay Ferguson will be happy to know that he took the helm on this one. It's a harmonic mid-tempo folk rocker, complete with plenty of memorable hooks.

Speaking with Brooklyn Vegan, Ferguson said the phrase "right to roam" was "a term I'd only first heard of when at a wedding in England. A relative of the groom was telling me about his hiking adventures in Scotland where they have a freedom-to-roam act giving people access to private land for wandering, walking, and hiking to prevent creating a country of overwhelming private property. I used the phrase as the basis for an England/Wales travelogue, and also a contemplation on pluses and minuses of personal freedom."

Sloan's 12 arrives on April 6 via Murderecords/Universal Music Canada. It is available for pre-order on CD and orange vinyl via MusicVaultz.
