Well, we've survived another month of winter. And while spring isn't here just yet, we do have our news roundup, which is here to help you catch up on the week's top stories.
First off, we'll start with a bit of hate. Earlier in the week, Kid Cudi got all Mr. Rager at his "weak ass label" over his new WZRD album, very publicly lashing out at Universal Republic for its allegedly poor handling of the release. According to Cudi, the label under-shipped the album, and he hasn't even got a copy of it himself, saying, "FAIL!!!... Im lettin Universal Republic have it, fuck it. What they gon' do, spank me??"
Not far behind, we also had Odd Future's Frank Ocean warring with Don Henley (or at least his label) over the R&B crooner's use the Eagles' "Hotel California," which Ocean sampled on his Nostalgia, Ultra. It doesn't seem the two sides can see eye to eye on this one, so this war of words may soon be heading to the courtroom.
For something a bit more positive, we had Calgary's Sled Island rolling out its initial lineup, Grandaddy reuniting for some shows, the Tragically Hip announcing some Canada Day festivities and Broken Social Scene's Brendan Canning announcing a new album from his Cookie Duster project. Plus, Thrush Hermit offshoot Camouflage Nights finally announced their debut album, which will feature Feist, Buck 65 and Chris Murphy.
In some Exclaim! interviews, we also had the Wooden Sky letting us in on a pile of new projects, while Memoryhouse shed some light on where they're coming from on their debut full-length and Said the Whale let us in on their lofty video ambitions.
Finally, this week we sadly saw the death of the Monkees' Davy Jones, as well as learned Women guitarist Chris Reimer's cause of death.
