On top of bringing in tons of international acts, Calgary's Sled Island festival provides an opportunity to showcase some local talent. Ahead of the festival's June 18 to 22 show schedule, though, the fest is teaming up with Scion Sessions to promote a cross section of Cowtown artists via the "Get to Know" program.
A press release notes that the aim of "Get to Know" is to "to shine a light on the city's top emerging bands playing the festival this year," and they're doing that by streaming online singles that will eventually end up on a 7-inch compilation. So far, garage rock crew Fist City, house DJ Dominic Pierce and Lab Coast have premiered new tunes, and you can hear those tracks below.
More songs will be unveiled up until the lead up of Sled Island. Following the fest, four songs from the sessions will be placed onto that 7-inch release.
Also, there will be an official "Get to Know" showcase during Sled Island. Set to take place June 19 at the Palomino, the Scion-sponsored and entirely free event will feature sets from Fist City, Dominic Pierce, Lab Coast and Mark Mills.
