Published Feb 05, 2013Details on just exactly who will be playing this year's Sled Island have yet to be revealed, but the Calgary music festival has just announced two guest curators that will help shape the fest, which runs this year from June 19 to 22. Plucking prolific musicians from both sides of the U.S./Canada border, the festival has announced it's bringing Thee Oh Sees leader John Dwyer and homegrown electronic experimentalist Tim Hecker in as curators.
Following Thee Oh Sees' 2011 appearance at Sled Island, organizers are hoping that Dwyer's "reputation as a wholly engaging live entertainer and as one of the best and most challenging independent songwriters working today" will help rope in some awesome acts. And, god willing, maybe another Oh Sees set.
Hecker's performance at the 2012 edition of Sled Island inspired organizers to enroll the Montreal-based soundscaper into a position as the festival's first-ever electronic music curator. For now, though, it's unclear just when the details on either Dwyer's or Hecker's lineup picks will be revealed.
Interestingly, Sled Island also announced today (February 5) that TSN personalities Jay Onrait and Dave Hodge will be hosting parties as part of a special Sled Island concert series, with details to be announced at a later date.
Previous Sled Island curators include Andrew W.K., Pavement's Scott Kannberg, Fucked Up and Bogus Tokus.
