Sleater-Kinney + Helium + Minders = Wild Flag

Ah, supergroups. Can we ever have enough of them? Unless you're absolutely impartial to the spiralling indie punk of Sleater-Kinney, the fuzzed-out bubblegum of Helium and the dorky pop of the Minders, the announcement of the newly formed Wild Flag  should have you screaming a resounding "no."

Perhaps most excitingly, the act reunites Carrie Brownstein and Janet Weiss, who took time off from Sleater-Kinney indefinitely nearly four years ago. However, the inclusion of former Helium chanteuse and solo performer Mary Timony and the Minders' Rebecca Cole is nothing to sniff at.

While the new group have started recording a debut disc for Merge Records - with plans to release it sometime in the new year - there is a rich history between the musicians that has brought them to this point, Pitchfork reports. Brownstein and Timony collaborated in 2000 as the Spells, while Weiss and Cole also currently get together in the Shadow Mortons. Not to mention, all of their previous groups had toured together at one time or another.

Speaking of which, Wild Flag is taking off on a short West coast tour this November. In the meantime, start drooling over the thought of that full-length.
