Sleater-Kinney have been inactive since 2006, but fans of the much-loved Portland band finally have new reason to be excited, since the members performed together onstage last night (November 29) during a Pearl Jam show in their hometown.

For the final song of the night at the Moda Center, Pearl Jam were joined by former R.E.M. collaborators Peter Buck and Scott McCaughey, plus Sleater-Kinney's Corin Tucker, Carrie Brownstein and Janet Weiss. The large ensemble played a cover of Neil Young's "Rockin' in the Free World."

While this isn't exactly the proper reunion fans have been hoping for, it's a promising sign for anyone who has been waiting for the trio to stage a comeback. In 2012, Brownstein said, "Corin and I are still the best of friends, and we have been talking a lot about Sleater-Kinney as something to do again."

The members of Sleater-Kinney have kept busy in the years since their hiatus began. Tucker has released music with her Colin Tucker Band, and Brownstein and Weiss both play in Wild Flag. Weiss has also played with the likes of Quasi, Stephen Malkmus and the Shins, while Brownstein stars in the sketch comedy show Portlandia.
