Slayer Denounce Tom Araya's Donald Trump Instagram Photo

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jan 26, 2017

Slayer vocalist Tom Araya caused some controversy yesterday (January 25) when he posted a Photoshopped picture of the band posing with Donald Trump to the official Slayer Instagram account, and now his bandmates have spoken out against the social media misstep.

They've issued a statement to Rolling Stone, which reads:

As was verified by Tom, this was his post, is not something the band would have posted if asked, and does not belong on a Slayer social page. We all have our personal opinions, some of which we have voiced in the past, but Slayer has never endorsed any political party or any candidate, and the band intends to keep it that way.

The original Instagram post featured a caption from Araya that stated: "Like him or not he is the president," and a comment that referred to "Mike Pence turning fruits into vegetables."

That post was removed, but the same photo has now returned with Araya maintaining, "I never would have guessed that there where so many snowflakes commenting their distaste for the new president."

See the offending photoshop job below.

For what it's worth, the band's Kerry King individually endorsed Hillary Clinton in an interview last summer.
