Skating Club

Skating Club

Singer/songwriter Aubrey Anderson apparently spends his time on a boat in Boston Harbor, but don't let that make you think all of his songwriting is all about seagulls and his wife, the sea. Skating Club is a bashful record of love songs, memories and, okay, a few water-related songs like "Albatross," but they don't exactly turn into sea shanties. The pace is generally slow and heavy, with emotionally draining and enlightening lyrics. "Foolish" has the soft drawl of Elliott Smith's gentle side and "Halloween" takes on the deep vocals of Hayden, showing Anderson's impressive vocal range. A break-up record of sorts for those who don't get green about the gills, Skating Club will cure those seasick blues for those who do.
