Six Organs of Admittance/Sun City Girls Offshoot Rangda Unveil Sophomore Effort

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Jul 26, 2012

If you thought the 2010 debut disc False Fang from psych supergroup Rangda --featuring Six Organs of Admittance/Comets on Fire's Ben Chasny, Sun City Girls' Sir Richard Bishop and percussionist Chris Corsano -- was a one-off affair, then guess again. The trio have announced that they're back with a sophomore album, titled Formerly Extinct, which will hit retailers October 16 through Drag City.

A press release insists that the nine-song set will "bore deep into the layers of consciousness," and lauds the album's apparent sonic oppressiveness and the potential for the six-sting work on tracks like "Manjun" to be worshipped for years to come. "Everybody always talks about 'Layla,' but when does anyone ever pull 'Majnun' out the hat?" the statement reads in typically smart-ass Drag City fashion.

Song samples have yet to arrive, but you can peep the tracklisting down below and the album art above.

Formerly Extinct:

1. Idol's Eye
2. The Vault
3. Silver Nile
4. Plugged Nickel
5. Manjun
6. Goodbye Mr. Gentry
7. Tres Hambres
8. Night Porter
