Sister Ray Shares Aching Cover of AC/DC's "Up to My Neck in You"

It follows the singer-songwriter's acclaimed debut 'Communion'

Edmonton-born, Toronto-based folk singer-songwriter Ella Coyes — better known as Sister Ray — is back to emotionally devastate with a cover of AC/DC's "Up to My Neck in You."

Coyes released their debut LP Communion back in May, which proceeded to land on Exclaim!'s best albums of 2022 so far list.

"Up to My Neck in You" was included on AC/DC's 1978 album Powerage. Coyes takes the high-voltage original and turns it on its head, melting the tempo down with a sparse fingerpicking arrangement. The artist's oaky, vibrato-dipped vocals and affected delivery transform the song into an entirely new beast; the kind of sting that sticks with you.

The rendition comes ahead of a slew of Canadian tour dates for Coyes, supporting the Rural Alberta Advantage and Basia Bulat, as well as a maiden headlining voyage in the UK and Europe.

Listen to the cover below, where you'll also find Sister Ray's tour itinerary.
